Current Issue of International Magazine
By Penny Barkley Nova, Corvette, Camaro. What do these brand names have in common besides being the names of three cars manufactured by Chevrolet? If you're an antique car collector or interested in antique cars, then these three band names represent only a fraction of the many types of antiques available today. Anyone interested in antique cars or reminiscing about the '50s and '60s might want to pencil in a trip to Morrison Motors on Old Charlotte Road. The business is owned and operated by Jimmy Morrison and his brother Gary. Their father, J.P., also takes part in the business. Besides featuring Corvettes and other classic cars, the company features a modern indoor showroom designed by R.B. Carter of Concord. The Morrisons moved their business into the new showroom recently.
"I started buying cars when I was 12 with the money I used to earn from working as a paper carrier with The Concord Tribune. I made $8 a week, and my dad was always working on cars," he said. The company is featured in this month's issue of Vette Views, an international magazine devoted to Corvettes. That resulted in the Morrisons being invited to visit the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, Ky. Morrison said most of his business comes from within a 100- to 125-mile radius of Concord, but it isn't just limited to this area. He has sold cars overseas, in Canada and throughout the country. Morrison said the showroom is open to both those in the market for a classic car and those who just want to take a trip down memory lane. Morrison Motors is open from 8:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8:30 to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
